2004 Edition

For articles in French:

  • First prize goes to Fousséni Traoré, from Mali, for the article “Quand les élèves gouvernent, l’école va mieux” (“School goes better when the pupils govern”), which appeared in Le Républicain de Bamako on 16 March 2004;

  • Second prize goes to Josette Barry, from the Ivory Coast, for the article “L’enseignement supérieur le grand sinistré : Décadence d’un système” (“The disastrous situation of higher education: The decadence of a system”), which appeared in Fraternité Matin d’Abidjan on 19 November 2003.

  • First prize - Daouda Mane and Mamadou Lamine Badji, originally from Senegal, for their article "Fuite des cerveaux et remèdes du mal" that appeared in Le Soleil, Dakar.
  • Second- Sabrina Quinn, originally from Mauritius, for her article "Le centre Ste Famille, une alternative à la rue" that appeared in the Weekend of Port Louis.

  • First - Cornia Pretorius, originally from South Africa for the article "The Writing's on the Board" that appeared in the Sunday Times, Johannesburg.
  • Second prize - Pilirani Semu-Banda, originally from Malawi for the article "Education Standards in Malawi Continue to Plummet" (Au Malawi, le niveau de l'éducation continue de chuter) that appeared in The Nation, Blantyre.

2002 Edition

For articles in French:

  • First prize- Rose Akakpo, orginally from Benin for her article "Revaloriser la fonction enseignante" that appeared in Le Point, Cotonou.
  • Second- - Didier Semanyenzi, originally from Rwanda for his article "La non scolarisation des filles au Rwanda n'est pas un mythe" that appeared in La Nouvelle Relève, Kigali.

For articles in English:

  • First - Bukola Olatunji, originally from Nigeria for his article "How far can a meal go?" that appeared in The Comet, Lagos.
  • Second prize- John Eremu, originally from Uganda for his article "Is your certificate genuine or forged?" that appeared in The New Vision, Kampala
