Since 1999, the Association
for the Development of Education in Africa (ADEA) and its Working
Group on Communication for Education and Development (GTCOMED)
have organized the Akintola Fatoyinbo Africa Education Journalism
Award that recognizes the best articles on education written
by African journalists and published in the African press. Through
this competition, ADEA acknowledges the essential role of journalists
in promoting quality public debates on the challenges of education
in Africa.
Established in 1988, ADEA works towards improving education
in Africa within the context of contributing to the achievement
of Education for All (EFA), and Millennium Development Goals
(MDG). A partnership between Ministers of education in Africa
and development agencies, ADEA is first and foremost a forum
for policy dialogue between countries, development and cooperation
agencies, research networks and other actors for the development
of education in Africa. ADEA also contributes to building institutional
capacities in countries, by reinforcing technical competencies,
establishing information networks and encouraging the sharing
of strategies and successful experiences.
