ADEA Steering Committee

ADEA congratulates newly appointed Ministers of Education.

Ghana

Hon. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah has been appointed Minister of Education in Ghana. He replaces Hon. Amoako-Nuama.

Uganda

Hon. Edward Khiddu Makubuya has been appointed Minister of Education and Sports in Uganda. He replaces Hon. Apolo Nsibambi, who has been appointed Prime Minister.

São-Tom and Principe

Hon. Peregrino Do Sacramento Da Costa has been appointed Minister of National Education and Culture. He replaces Hon. Dos Santos Sequeira Bragana.

Ghana, Uganda and São-Tom and Principe are among the 10 member countries of the ADEA Bureau of Ministers.

France

Mr. Jean-Claude Balmès, representing the French Cooperation on the ADEA Steering Committee has left the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He is now at the Agence française de développement. Mr. Jean-Pierre Destouesse, Deputy Director for Social Development and Education Cooperation at the International Cooperation and Development Division, and Mrs. Annie Seren, Head of the Bureau of School Instruction and Literacy (same Division), now represent the French Cooperation on the ADEA Steering Committee.

Ireland

The ADEA Steering Committee is pleased to welcome the Department of Foreign Affairs, Ireland, among its members. Ms. Nessa Delaney, Desk Officer, Development Cooperation Division and Ms. Liz Higgins, Education Advisor (same division), will represent Irish Aid on the ADEA Steering Committee.

Working Group on Education

Sector Analysis (WGESA)

WGESA launched the first issue of its Newsletter (WGESA News) in January 1999. WGESA has also launched its own Web Site recently. These new tools are part of a communication strategy developed for WGESA's new phase of activities.

ADEA Secretariat

The ADEA Secretariat has recruted a new Program Officer, in renplacement of Ms. Lyne Godmaire, who left the Secretariat last December. Mr. Vincent Snijders (Netherlands) joined ADEA in February. He has worked as an Associate Expert with UNDP in Kirghistan and with UNESCO in Mozambique. M. Snijders will be responsible for follow-up work with the Working Groups on Sector Analysis, Distance Education, Nonformal Education, Higher Education, Female Participation, and Statistics.
