Varkey Foundation's Challenge Fund

Over the next five years the Varkey Foundation commits to catalysing a global, sustainable change in the way teachers are trained, treated and perceived. Our catalytic partnerships with ambitious, forward-thinking organisations are key to progress.

The Varkey Foundation Challenge Fund provides grants to partner organisations that offer innovative solutions in support of our mission. The Challenge Fund seeks to support a small number of early-stage initiatives in their endeavours, with individual grants of up to $50,000 available to help build the capacity of teachers and to strengthen the status of the teaching profession. On the basis of our portfolio and areas of growing interest, the Varkey Foundation is particularly interested in receiving proposals which address the following:

  • Recruitment and retention of teachers
  • Public perception of teachers
  • Public policy and the teaching profession
  • Pedagogical training of teachers
  • The use of ICTs in education
  • The delivery of education in Fragile and Conflict States (FCAS)
