First Global Books Alliance workshop in Africa

Date:
22 January 2018 to 25 January 2018
City:
Abidjan
Country:
Côte d’Ivoire

The WGBLM will organize in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, from 22nd to 25th January 2018, a first regional workshop that will bring together representatives from ten African Francophone countries (i.e. Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Guinea, Mali, Niger, Togo and Senegal) and from ten African Anglophone countries (i.e. Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, Rwanda, Somalia, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia). Each country will be represented by a delegation of three people: a representative of the Ministry of Basic Education, a textbook or national language reader publisher, and a national language author in these same languages.

The Abidjan workshop will be the first step in sensitization and advocacy for the Global Book Alliance itself and for the need to institute innovative and effective mechanisms within countries for the production, acquisition, distribution, management and use of textbooks and other reading materials in national languages to establish a solid and sustainable groundwork for the quality education of our youth.
