ADEA organizes Forum on Skills Development in Monrovia

ADEA’s Working Group on Education Management and Policy Support (WGEMPS)  helped organize a Policy Dialogue Forum on Skills Development convened by Liberia’s Ministry of Education. The Forum took place in Monrovia, March 26-28, 2014.

Participants included representatives from Liberia’s Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Finnish institution for Vocational Education and Training (VET) Omnia, business associations, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutes, the private sector and experts in Technical and Vocational Skills Development (TVSD).

The Forum addressed the lack of credible vocational training standards and benchmarks as well as the lack of qualified TVET instructors for the Liberian unskilled and semi-skilled workforce. It also addressed the challenges of accreditation, curriculum and infrastructure faced by Liberia.

The Ministry of Education has constituted a reference group, which includes ADEA, to develop a costed concept framework, by the end of April 2014, which covers infrastructure, governance, training and equipment. The framework will be turned into a funding proposal to be used in raising funds for TVSD programme implementation, in support of the Ministry’s operational plan.
