New president for the Ministers Bureau
The ADEA Ministers Bureau has a new interim president: the Honorable
Mrs. Rosalie Kama Niamayoua, Minister of Education for the Congo.
Mrs. Niamayoua was chosen by the ministers present at ADEA's last
Steering Committee meeting in Paris. She replaces the Honorable Mr.
Louis Steven Obeegadoo, who has left the Mauritius Ministry of Education.
Hon. Niamayoua will hold the presidency until the next Biennial Meeting
of ADEA in March 2006, at which time the Ministers will meet to elect
a new president.

New members of the ADEA Steering Committee
ADEA wishes to welcome the new members of its Steering Committee:
The Hon. Mrs Chinwe Nora Obaji, Minister of Education in Nigeria,
the Hon. Mr Aires Bonifacio Baptista Ali, Minister of Education and
Culture of Mozambique, Mrs Anne Banwell, of the Canadian International
Development Agency (CIDA), Mr Jussi Karakoski, of the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs of Finland, and Mrs Bente Nilson of the Norwegian
agency for cooperation and development (Norad).

Joris van Bommel leaves ADEA Secretariat
Joris van Bommel, ADEA program officer from August 2003 to January
2006, has left the Secretariat to assume a post with the Ministry
of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands. ADEA wishes Mr. Van Bommel
every success in his new position.

New coordinator for WG on
Mathematics and Science Education
Mr. Bernard Njuguna, Coordinator for the Working Group on Mathematics
and Science Education (WGMSE) since 2004 when the Working Group was
created has left the Working Group. ADEA thanks Mr. Njuguna for the
excellent work he has carried to implement WGMSE and launch its activities
in 2005. We wish all the best to Mr. Njuguna in his future endeavors
and we are pleased to welcome Mr. Obadiah Maganga, WGMSE’s new coordinator,

New coordinator for WG on
Books and Learning Materials
Beulah Thumbadoo has joined the Working Group on Books and Learning
Materials (WGBLM). Along with READ Educational Trust, she will be
responsible for coordinating WGBLM's activities. Ms. Thumbadoo was
awarded a prestigious Ashoka fellowship in 2000 for her public entrepreneurship
in getting the Department of Education to launch a national reading
campaign, Masifunde Sonke. Other initiatives undertaken by Ms. Thumbadoo
include the ERA (Easy Reading for Adults) African Languages Series,
the ERA Book Box (ERA library) and a reading supplement for newly
literate adults in a weekly newspaper. Ms. Thumbadoo continues her
reading activism and work in education through the establishment in
2001 of Beulah Thumbadoo & Associates.
