Bamako,
Mali, November 21-23, 2004
ADEA, the World Bank, Education International
and the Ministry of Education of Mali are organizing jointly a Conference
on ‘Contractual Teachers’ in Primary Schools’. The
Conference will be hosted by the Government of Mali and will be held
in Bamako from 21 November to 23 November 2004.
The general objective of this Conference is to examine
the development of such experiences in order to identify the major
challenges and encourage the concerted search of solutions in order
to create the conditions for a sustainable approach.
The conference will specifically aim to: (i) undertake
a stocktaking review exercise of the experiences of contractual teachers
in the relevant countries; (ii) identify the major challenges raised
by these experiences; (iii) encourage dialogue between the countries
and the main stakeholders, namely between governments and trade unions,
towards the search of sustainable solutions; (iv) and promote cooperation
between the various countries in order to exchange and share knowledge
on good practices.
The invited countries will be mainly francophone countries
confronted with the experience of recruiting contractual teachers
and these countries include: Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Congo
Brazzaville, Ivory Coast, Guinea, Madagascar, Mali, Mauritania, Niger,
Senegal et Chad and Togo. The delegation of each country includes
representatives from: the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Finance,
the Ministry of Employment and Civil Service, Trade Unions and Parent-Teacher
Associations.
