ADEA and the AUC develop common Road Map

A delegation of ADEA met with the African Union Commission (AUC) on December 6 to develop a common Road Map. The meeting took place at the headquarters of the African Union, in Addis Ababa.

The objective of the meeting was to operationalize the MoU through the joint planning of strategic activities that will increase the impact of the two organizations on education and training in Africa. 

The AUC and ADEA agreed on activities that will be carried out jointly in several strategic areas including: monitoring of the Second Decade of Education in Africa; implementation of the Coalition for Education in Africa;  joint high-level advocacy across the African continent and globally; participation in AU high-level events on education in Africa; collaboration with the Regional Economic Communities; organization of the first specialized technical committee on education, science and technology; and collaboration in key thematic areas including Technical and Vocational Skills Development (TVSD) and Statistics and Education Management Information Systems (EMIS).

ADEA and the African Union Commission (AUC) signed a first Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in 2008, within the framework of implementation of the Second Decade of Education in Africa. The MoU was revised and renewed in March 2014.

The AU Commissioner for Human Resources, Research, Science and Technology, Hon. Martial De Paul Ikounga, chaired the meeting. Also participating in the meeting were the Acting Director of the Division of Science and Technology, Mahama Ouedraogo, the Director of the Education Division and Acting Director of the Youth Division, Beatrice Njenga and the Acting Rector of the Pan-African University, Professor Belay Kassa. ADEA was represented by the Chair of the Executive Committee, Dzingai Mutumbuka  and the Executive Secretary of  ADEA , Oley Dibba-Wadda, who were accompanied by 6 other staff members.
