Call for Applications: The inaugural African Inclusive Literacy Research Award

The Association for the Development of Education in Africa (ADEA) and the Comparative and International Education Society (CIES) are pleased to announce the inaugural call for applications for the newly established African Inclusive Literacy Research Award in memory of the inclusive education champion Rebecca H. Rhodes. This award seeks to support research by African scholars and practitioners investigating how to help children and youth with disabilities learn to read and write, and to read and write to learn.

The first round of the award will comprise one $5,000 USD prize to be made to a single primary applicant (individual) to help cover expenses for proposed research related to literacy education (i.e., foundational reading skills, and, optionally, writing/written communication skills) for children or youth with disabilities and/or special education needs. The award funds may also be used to cover expenses of other study team members per the eligibility criteria. Applications must be received on or before Friday, February 16, 2024 – and are encouraged to be submitted earlier if completed before this date. The winner is expected to be announced at the 2024 CIES Annual Conference in March
