Catherine Matara
Ms. Catherine Ondieki (Matara) is a senior education policy and programme management professional with over 20 years of experience in Kenya’s education sector. She currently serves as a Deputy Director of Education at the Ministry of Education, Directorate of Policy, Partnerships and East African Community Affairs, where she leads education programme, implementation, monitoring and multi stakeholder coordination. Catherine is the ADEA ICQN Peace Education coordinator, national Focal Person for SDG 4.7 and provides strategic leadership on Education for Sustainable Development, peace and values education, ICT integration, and foundational literacy. She has contributed to national planning frameworks, global ESD initiatives, and high level government reporting. Catherine holds a Master’s degree in Education and advanced training in strategic leadership and education management. She is a trained government protocol officer and a certified professional mediator in Kenya.
Catherine is proficient in policy analysis, programme coordination, results-based management, and data analysis tools, including SPSS and MS Office. She is passionate about quality education, national cohesion, and values-driven leadership and remains committed to strengthening education systems through evidence-based policy and inclusive partnerships.
